Chinook SV Girls Basketball Invitational Tournament begins Friday afternoon

Girls basketball will take centre stage this weekend in Lethbridge.

The Chinook High School Senior Varsity Girls Basketball Invitational Tournament will run Jan. 12-13.

It all begins Friday at 2:45 p.m., as the host Coyotes take on H.J. Cody High School from Sylvan Lake. That will be followed by a 4:30 p.m., which will feature Foothills and Cardston.

Friday’s slate of games continues at 6:15 p.m. with Cranbrook’s Mt. Baker taking on Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. The late game Friday will see Raymond and Medicine Hat’s McCoy hit the court at 8 p.m.

Should Chinook win the opening game on Friday afternoon, the Coyotes will move to play in the first semifinal on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., against the winner of the Foothills-Cardston game. An opening-round loss would move Chinook to the consolation semifinal Saturday at 8 a.m.

Other key games on Saturday include the other consolation semifinal at 9:45 a.m. and the tournament’s second semifinal (the winner of Raymond-McCoy) at 1:15 p.m.

The seventh-place game will take place Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by the consolation final at 4:45 p.m., the third-place game at 6:30 p.m. and the championship final at 8:15 p.m.
